WEEK OF 7/27
 

On Thursday, July 30th, Milton entered the playoffs as the #2 seed with a record of 7-3. After winning a dramatic game on Tuesday, Milton traveled to Welcome Young Field in Quincy to take on #1 seed Quincy. Milton U10 Mullaney put a perfect game together with strong defense, timely hitting and clutch pitching to beat Quincy 7-2 and bring home the 2015 U10 South Shore Summer League Championship. Congratulations girls! Your hard work paid off. Milton previously won a U10 championship back in 2008.

On Wednesday, July 29th, Milton U18 hosted Bridgwater at Gile Field in the championship game of the U18 South Shore Summer League Playoffs. Milton had previously beat Bridgewater a week earlier by a score of 6-2. Milton knew Bridgewater would come to play and they would have to play their best to take home the championship.

Bridgewater struck first and jumped out to a 1-0 in the 2nd inning on a blooper to left field that fell in for a hit.

Milton responded in the bottom of the 2nd. With two outs, Jill R. hit a hard single to right. Madeline C. followed with a clutch triple to right center to tie the game at 1.

In the bottom of the third, Milton exploded for 6 runs. Jess B. started off the inning with a base hit (sound familiar?). With one out, Meghara M. singled and Caitlin L. was hit by a pitch. Jess O. followed with a 2-RBI single to center. The rally continued with singles by Jenna C., Eva H. and Shannon F. giving Milton a 7-1 lead.

Milton responded by shutting down Bridgewater with great defense and solid pitching. Olivia F. caught a mile-high fly ball in center field and Caitlin L. made a great outfield catch shutting down a rally. Jess O., Jenna C., and Meghara M. were solid on the left side of the infield making several strong defensive plays.

Pitcher Shannon F. was incredible. For 7 innings she kept Bridgwater off balance (7IP, 1R, 8K).

Milton U18 wins the 2015 U18 South Shore Summer League Championship by beating Bridgewater by a score of 10-1. Milton U18 finishes the season with a record of 11-0-1. Congratulations girls on a great season.

 

On Tuesday, July 28th, the Milton U10 Mullaney team can back twice from deficits in the late innings to secure a 5-4 win over the South Braintree. Braintree led 2-0 and 3-2 into the 5th inning until Grace Schultz tied the game on a double and Shay Doherty scored the tying run in the bottom of the fifth.  Micheala Ward drew a bases loaded walk to put Milton up 4-3 in the 5th before adding another run to take a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the 5th.

Norah Walsh threw a runner out from right field attempting to extend a single to a double and then made a great catch on a deep fly to right with 2 outs and runners on second and third in the 5th.

The top of the 6th saw one runner score and the bases load up before Brianna Dimaggio struck out the #4 batter to finish a complete game.

On to Quincy for the 10U girls for the championship game Thursday night.

 

On Monday, July 27th, Milton U18 hosted South Braintree White at Cunningham Park in the semifinals of the South Shore Summer League Playoffs. Milton had previously beat South Braintree White by comfortable margins but the playoffs are an entirely different story. Luckily, Milton came to play.

South Braintree White jumped out to a 2 run lead in the top of the first on a couple of miscues and a fielder's choice. Pitching and defense was the theme of the night as the game remained a 2-0 South Braintree lead until the bottom of the 5th.

Shannon F. led off with a single. Olivia F. followed with a bomb to left center scoring Shannon and cutting the deficit to 2-1. 

South Braintree White responded in the top of the 6th by scoring a run to give them a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of 6th, Milton U18 took the lead for good. Jess B. started off the rally with a single. Grace O. earned a walk and Meghara M. singled to load the bases. With the bases loaded and no outs, Caitlin L. came through in the clutch with an RBI single. Jess O. continued the rally with a single scoring two runs and giving Milton the lead 4-3 for the first time all night.

In the 7th, Milton shut down South Braintree with a catch by Olivia F. in CF, a tough running catch by Eva H. at first and a line drive catch by Jenna C. at third.

Offensively, Jill R. (2 hits) and Jess O. (2 hits) led the way. 

Pitcher Shannon F. was outstanding throwing strikes for 7 innings (7IP, 3R, 6K).

Milton U18 survives by a score of 4-3 over South Braintree White and advances to the championship game against Bridgewater.

 

WEEK OF 7/20

 

On Wednesday, July 22nd, Milton U18 traveled south to take on Bridgewater in the last regular season game for both teams. Bridgewater would like nothing more than to knock off undefeated Milton, but Milton came to play.

The game was a pitching duel from the outset. Milton loaded the bases in the first but could not score. Defensively, Milton faced the minimum 9 batters over the first three innings.

In the top of the 3rd, Milton rallied for 3 runs. Jess O. led off with a single, stole 2nd and went to third on a passed ball. She scored on a sacrifice fly to deep right by Jenna C. Eva H. followed with a single and scored on a ground out to second. 

In the 4th, Milton struck for three runs. Jess B. led off with a single and scored on an RBI single by Jess O. The inning continued with a single by Eva H. that scoredJess O. and Jenna C. giving Milton a 5-0 lead.

Milton scored an insurance run in the 7th on some great base running byShannon F.

Defensively, the outfield of Shannon F., Caitlin L. and Emily M. made some quality catches including a double play started by Caitlin L. Milton made a great defensive play by throwing out a runner at third. Shannon F. fielded a deep hit toJess O. who fired to Jenna C. for the out at third.

Pitcher Jess B. was outstanding throwing strikes for 7 innings (7IP, 2R, 4K). Milton U18 beats Bridgewater, 6-2.

 

On Tuesday, U10 Mullaney beat Hingham by a score of 18-10. Home runs by Hannah Andrews and Grace Schultz powered the offense as cara Facey pitched 3 innings for the win.

 

On Monday, July 20th, Milton U18 hosted Quincy on a sunny, humid night at Cunningham Park. Milton U18 was coming off an emotional 8-8 tie with Hingham and was anxious to start a new winning streak.

After getting in a jam with runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, Shannon F. struck out the next two batters to shut down the rally. Milton U18 didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard scoring 7 times in the first inning. Milton was finished scoring 5 runs in the 2nd and 4 runs in the 3rd to jump out to a 16-0 lead.

Leading the offense for Milton was Caitlin L. (2 hits, 4 runs scored), Jess O. (2 hits), Jenna C. (single, triple, home run and 4 runs scored), Shannon F. (3 hits),Olivia F. (single, triple), Madeline C. (2 hits), and Jess B. (2 hits), 

Defensively, shortstop Olivia F. started a double play by catching a pop fly at shortstop and firing to first doubling up the runner. Emily M. was exceptional in the right field backing up a throw to first and making several putouts at first base.Jess O. (catcher) and Eva H. (shortstop) threw out a runner trying to steal with a laser throw and swipe tag for the out.

On the mound, Shannon F. (3IP, 0R, 2K) and Jess B. (4IP, 7R, 2K) keep Quincy off-balance and set the tone for Milton.

Milton U18 beats Quincy by a score of 23-7.

 

WEEK OF 7/13

 

On Thursday, July 16th, Milton U10 Mullaney took on Braintree South. Great Defense and timely hitting against the second place team lead to a great win. Gabriella Gallagher, Cara Facey and Molly Wells made great defensive plays to support good pitching and give Milton a solid shot at the playoffs. Milton U10 Mullaney wins 10-3.

 

On Wednesday, July 15th, Milton U18 traveled south to take on Hingham. Hingham was currently in 2nd place and they would like nothing more than to knock off undefeated Milton.

Milton set the tone early by scoring three times in the first inning. Singles by Ashley V. and Jess O. set the table for Eva H. (I'm here, I am getting out the car. I am here!). Eva H. responded with a 2-RBI double and scored on Madeline C. clutch 2-out single to center.

Hingham tied it in the 2nd inning and took the led 4-3 as the game headed into the 5th. Milton rallied for 4 runs including hits by Jess O., Eva H., Shannon F. and Madeline C. to take a 7-4 lead. Hingham stormed back scoring 2 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th.  

Milton had the bases leaded with one out, but could not score the go ahead run. 

In the 8th both teams scored a run using International Rules and the game ended in a dramatic 8-8 tie. 

Defensively, Ashley V. made two nice catches in center field.

Pitcher Shannon F. pitched 8 outstanding innings (8IP, 8R, 13K).

Milton U18 and Hingham settle for a 8-8 tie (8 innings).

 

On Tuesday, July 14th, Milton U10 Mullaney beat Weymouth by a score of 13-6. Hard fought win. Team was shaking off the "tournament hangover" and looking ahead to The battle for the playoffs Thursday vs Braintree. Great pitching by Lauren Martin, and a 7 run top of the 6th inning blew the game open as Shay Doherty scored the winning run and the defense shut them out in the 6th. "On to Braintree" say the Milton Red Wildcats!
 

On Monday, July 13th, Milton U18 hosted South Braintree at Cunningham Park on an overcast but warm summer evening. South Braintree was coming off an upset win and hoped it could knock off undefeated Milton U18.

South Braintree started the game with runners on 2nd and 3rd but Milton escaped the jam without giving up a run. In the bottom of the 1st, Milton struck for three runs including a key hit by Shannon F. The run barrage continued in the 2nd with Milton U18 scoring 5 times including five straight hits.

Defensively, shortstop Olivia F. and 2nd baseman Caitlin L. made some solid plays in the field. 

The offense was led by Ashley V. (2 singles, double), Jess O. (2 hits, 2 BB, 4 runs scored), Jenna C. (2 singles, double, triple), Olivia F. (2 hits), Grace O. (2 hits), and Caitlin L. (2 hits).

On the mound, Shannon F. (5IP, 0R, 4K) and Jess B. (2IP, 0R) were solid and set the tone for Milton.

Milton U18 beats South Braintree Blue by a score of 17-0.

 

WEEK OF 7/6

On Thursday, July 9th, Milton U12 Carroll scored 5 times in the top of the 7th and won a thrilling game against a very good Plymouth team 7-6.  The star of the game for Milton was Jillian Vaughn she had incredible game- she pitched 7 innings, had 13 strikeouts, at the plate she led the offense with a home run, a triple and 3 RBI.

In the 7th it was the bottom of the Milton order got things going for Milton Marilyn Carroll, Joss Ridge, Ally Morse and Arden Carvalho all reached base which set the stage for the big bats, Jillian, Kaleigh McCormick, Gianna Gallagher, Caroline Humphries and Ava Hillier.

In the bottom of the 7th with the tying run on third base Jillian got the strikeout to end the game. 

It was an great game to be a part of the girls should be very proud of themselves.

 

Back in Milton, Milton U18 hosted South Braintree at Gile Field on a perfect summer evening. South Braintree came into the game with only one loss - to Milton a week earlier. South Braintree had payback on their mind.

In the top of the 1st, Pitcher Shannon F. struck out the leadoff batter looking but then got into a little jam with runners on second and third. The cleanup hitter hit a line drive back to the pitcher. Shannon F. caught it and threw to third baseman Jenna C. to double up the runner and get out of the jam.

In the bottom of the 1st, Milton U18 rallied for four runs including key hits by Jenna C., Eva H. (2 hits), and Jill R. (2 singles, double). Milton continued the hit parade by scoring runs in every inning except the 6th. Hits from Ashley V. (2 hits), Jess O. (2 hits), Shannon F. (single, double), Olivia F. (2 hits), Madeline C., Emily M. (2 doubles, single), Jess B.Grace O., and Caitlin L. (2 hits, 2 BB) led the offense.

รข€‹Defensively, Caitlin L. mad several nice plays at second while Olivia F. showed off her arm at shortstop.

On the mound, Shannon F. was solid (7IP, 8R, 7K) and set the pace for Milton.

Milton U18 beats South Braintree White, 22-8.

 

On Monday, July 6th, Milton U18 hosted Cohasset Hull at Gile Field on a summer evening under the lights. Cohasset Hull came to play and jumped out to a 6-0 and 7-1 lead in the blink of an eye.

On the mound Jess B. pitched well (3 IP, 7 runs, 5K) but Cohasset Hull was hitting it into the gaps. Shannon F. (4 IP, R, 8K) pitched the second half of the game and limited Cohasset Hull to one run over 4 innings.

Defensively, Olivia F. turned a double play with a ball hit to her at short, she stepped on second and fired to first for the second out. Madeline C. made a nice catch at 2nd base and Jenna C. got Milton out of an inning with a nice fly ball catch at 3rd. 

Offensively, Milton U18 got it into gear in the 3rd inning scoring 5 times and cutting the deficit to 7-6. The rally was capped by a bases clearing double by Jenna C. and a clutch 2-out single by Eva H. Down 7-6, Milton took the lead for good by scoring 3 times. Key hits by Jess O., Shannon F. and a sacrifice fly by Jenna C. led the way.

Milton put the game out of reach in the 6th by scoring 5 runs including hits by Olivia F., Jill R.Ashley V. and Jess O.

Milton U18 recovers from a 7-1 deficit and rallies to win 14-8.

 

WEEK OF 6/29

Milton U18 traveled to Braintree to take on South Braintree White on Wednesday, July 1st in a battle between two 2-0 teams. It would be a good test for the girls and they were up for the challenge.

In the first two games of the season, it took Milton U18 some time to get the bats going. Not today. Milton exploded for three runs in the first inning. With one out, Jess O. singled and stole second. Both Jenna C. and Eva H. worked the count and walked. With two outs, Olivia F. hit a clutch 2-out double to clear the bases giving Milton the early 3-0 lead.

Braintree South battled back scoring two runs cutting the deficit to 3-2. In the third, Jess O. walked and Jenna C. hit a bomb to left center field over the fence for a 2-run home run and a 5-2 lead. 

After Braintree South scored two in the bottom of the 4th to trim the deficit to 5-4, Milton U18 exploded for seven runs in the 5th inning to take a commanding 12-4 lead. Grace O. (single, BB) started the outburst with a single. After singles by Caitlin L. (single, SB) and Jess O. (2 singles, double, BB), Jenna C. (single, triple, HR, BB) hit a triple. The rally continued with hits by Shannon F.Eva H. (2 doubles, BB), Olivia F. (2 hits), Madeline C. and Emily M. The momentum has shifted and Milton felt if they played their game, they could come away with the win.

Defensively, the catcher/shortstop duo of Jess O. and Olivia F. threw out two base runners trying to steal. Jenna C. made a great play at third going back on the ball. Madeline C. was solid at 2nd making several putouts and tracking down flyballs.

On the mound, Jess B. was solid (4IP, 4R, 3K). Shannon F. closed the game with three solid innings of relief work. solid (3IP, 4K, 1 run).

Milton U18 beats South Braintree, 13-5.
 

 

Milton U18 hosted Abington in their home opener of the summer travel season on a beautiful June night at Cunningham Park.

The Milton bats started slow but were able to manufacture a run in the third with a walk and a stolen base by Caitlin and some clutch 2-out hitting by Ashley V. and Jess O. to tie the game at 1. 

Milton U18 went ahead for good in the 5th by rallying for 5 runs including a bases clearing triple by Jenna C. Offensively, the team was led by Ashley V. (3 hits), Jill R. (2 hits) and Jess O. (2 hits)

On the mound, Shannon F. pitched a gem (7IP, 6K, 4 runs) keeping batters off balance all night. She was supported by some strong defensive plays early in the game by Ashley V. Ashley tracked down two high fly balls in deep center field. Caitlin L. took charge in left on a shallow fly ball in left calling off the middle infielders. Madeline C. made a key play on a shallow fly ball behind first to keep Abington off the bases. Shortstop Jess O. sealed the win by moving to her left and fielding a ball up the middle and firing to first to end the game).

Milton U18 holds on and edges Abington 6-4.


WEEK OF 6/22

Milton U10 beats Braintree 11-10 on a dramatic win. Milton opens up a big lead and then shuts down Braintree in the last inning. Brianna DiMaggio strikes out the side in order with the tying run on third with no outs.

 

Opening Day for the Milton U18 Summer Team found them traveling to North Quincy to take on Quincy.

The game started slow for Milton U18. Milton was generating base runners but could not put any runs on the board until the third inning. In the third, Jenna C. led off with a walk and advanced to second on a ground out. With two outs, Olivia F. hit a clutch double to get Milton on the scoreboard and tie the game 1-1.

In the fourth Milton U18 exploded for the inning maximum seven runs including hits by Kate M., Jess O., Ashley V. and Caitlin L.  In the 5th, Milton picked up where they left off scoring 5 times to put the game out of reach. Contributions came from from Grace O. (4 BBs), Jenna C. and Jess. O.

Leading the offense was Shannon F. (3 hits), Caitlin L. (2 hits), and Jess O. (2 hits). Jenna C. was on base three times and scored three runs.

On the mound, Shannon F. was solid (7IP, 5K, 0BB, 2 runs) leading the team to a win on opening night.
