2010 Senior Division Playoffs

Lennon Senior Division Championship
Saturday, June 19, 2010

VS.

The Lennon Senior Division Championship matched up the #1 Seed Diamondbacks vs. the #3 Seed Rockies.  The Rockies returned to the Championship for the third straight year and hoped to repeat as champions.  For the Diamondbacks, this was their first appearance in the Championship Game.  The matchup featured two of the strongest pitchers in the league and both teams felt it would come down to pitching.

The Dbacks jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead with a two out base hit by Rebecca O. and came around to score on a clutch single by Maeve W.  The Dbacks extended the lead to 3-0 after two innings sparked by a double by Kristina H.  The score remained 3-0 until the 4th inning with the Rockies' Sarah D. lead off with a single and came around to score after stealing third.  The Dbacks defense helped keep the explosive Rockies' offense from a big inning with two line drive catches in right center field by Maeve W. off the bats of Shannon F. and Olivia F.

The Dbacks responded in the bottom of the 4th with two run to extend the lead to 5-1.  The Rockies made some solid plays in the field including a great catch and double play by Ciara S. to shut down the rally.  The scored remained 5-1 entering the top of the 7th.  Shannon F. started things off for the Rockies with a line drive single to left.  Shannon F. advanced to second on a passed ball to move into scoring position.  With one out in the seventh, Monica W. scorched a line drive to right center but Maeve W. was in perfect position to catch the ball and step on second for the double play.  Dbacks win, 5-1.

The defense on both sides was all-star quality but the game was all about the pitching.  Rockies' Shannon F. (6IP, 5K, 5R) and Dbacks' Rebecca O. (7IP, 13K, 1R) were outstanding and kept hitters on both sides off balance all night long.

Congratulations to both teams on a great season and a well-played game.

VS.        VS

The Senior Division Seminfinals featured the #2 Phillies and the #3 Rockies.  The other semifinal matchup featured the #5 Rays and the #1 Diamondbacks.

The Phillies went up 5-1 after the first inning with some good hitting.  The Rockies fought back with two in the 3rd and 4th innings to tie it. The Phillies answered back with two in the bottom of the 4th to go up 7-5.

In the top of the 6th, the Rockies exploded for six runs to take a 11-7 lead.  The Phillies answeered back with two in the sixth to close the gap to 11-9.  In the bottom of the 7th, the Rockies retired the first two batters, but the never say die Phillies loaded the bases.  With the winning run on first, Rockies ace Shannon F. struck out the Phillies batter to win the game.  The Rockies beat the Phillies in a wild one, 11-9.

The Rays - Diamondbacks game was a great pitching duel between two strong arms.  The Rays showed some great defense and outstanding pitching but the Dbacks were able to keep the Rays offense at the plate.  With the game scoreless going into the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Dbacks got on the board first going up 1-0.

With the score 1-0 entering the late innings, the Diamondbacks had two clutch doubles by Kristina H. to give the Dbacks a 6-0 lead after 6 innings.  It was enough as the Dbacks hung on for the 6-0 win over the Rays.

The Dbacks and the Rockies face off for the Senior Division Championship on Saturday night.
