WEEK OF 7/17

14U  - July 19th
Milton Red battled not only a large Scituate squad, but also the heat and humidity.  Pitching duties from Arden C.  (four innings) and Maureen L. (two innings) kept the game moving along and held Scituate to five runs. Defensively, plays made by Lila G., Bridget L., Caroline H. and Maggie W. kept the Scituate team from crossing the plate too often.  Offensive help came from Bridget L., Keira L. and Gianna G.

WEEK OF 7/10

14U  - July 11th
Patience was the watchword for the Milton Red squad at Mitchell-McCoy field in Quincy.  Eight batters were hit by pitches and another 31walked.  Hits from Maggie W., Noelle C., Keira L., Lucy S. and Arden C. rounded out the offensive side.  Arden C.added seven strikeouts, gave up three hits and four walks. Final score, Milton Red 30, Quincy Blue 2

14U - July 13th
Milton Red faced the undefeated Quincy Gold team on a cold and drizzly July night at Pageant Field in Quincy.  Despite getting an early 6-0 lead and a 1-2-3 first inning from pitcher Arden C., Milton struggled in the second and third innings, giving up 10 runs from walks compounded by errors in the field.  Offensively, the third and fifth innings were important to Milton, with hits from Lila G., Gianna G., Caroline H., Lucy S., Reese J., and Noelle C. Defensively, the team was helped by a foul-tip caught by catcher Lucy S., and an amazing throw from Lila G. to third base to allow Gianna G. to tag out a runner attempting to take an extra base. Arden C. was also able to catch a runner going home with a great tag by Lucy C. The baserunner on first then tried to take an extra base, but Caroline H. was ready with the tag when Arden C. made the accurate throw to end the inning.
At the end of seven innings, the score was tied 14-14 and the team played one extra inning using the International Tiebreaker Rule.  This was a first for the team, and despite starting with a runner on second base, Milton was unable to score.  The Quincy team got their runner to third on a grounder to Reese J. at first.  A popup to Arden C was followed by a routine grounder to Caroline H. at short, ending the game in a tie. Final Score, Milton Red 14, Quincy Gold 14.

Great start for the team last week with a win over Cohasset.  We then played 3 games this week.

Tough loss against Milton White, 13-10.  The girls fought hard but couldn't catch them. We then took on Braintree.  It was a great pitching job by Brianna D. and an offensive explosion with us winning 22-6. We finished the week up with Quincy.  They had some heavy hitters but they ran into the pitching duo of Emerson J. and MK. The bats and base running were also excellent. Milton Blue won 18-8.  On to the Hingham teams next week.
